Melaiye: DSS Invasion of Judges Residences Is Totally Wrong
Chairman, Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory, Senator Dino Melaiye, at the weekend, said "the invasion of Judges residences by the DSS is totally wrong and not acceptable.
Melaiye, who said he had "studied the ACT setting up Department of State Security (DSS), Nigera Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) and can concluded that the DSS operated outside their core mandate."
According to him, "there is no doubt that many Judges are corrupt. It is also important to state that the need to sanitize the judiciary of corruption that make Judges give commercial rulings that create terrible precedence in our legal system.
"Judges have no immunity and can be tried and should be tried but the use of DSS is absolutely wrong. The DSS even when they overstretch themselves and conduct investigations on the Judges, they ought to hand over their findings to the appropriate institution of government, i.e the police or National Judicial Council for prosecution and punishment.
"The rule of law is a core value of governance and therefore must be guided jealously. Prosecution of civil and corrupt cases in not the responsibility of DSS. Internal security is the main stay of the DSS and they should stick to that. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigerian," he surmised.
