CID Begin Investigation into Death of IEBC ICT Manager Msando, Warn Against Speculation
Officials of the poll agency and election observers will receive State security, the Government has said.
The Interior principal secretary, Dr Karanja Kibicho, asked employees and officials of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) who feel that their lives are in danger to liaise with the police to get protection.
At the same time, the PS cautioned the public not to speculate about the death of IEBC's Chris Msando.
He said police should be left to do their job of investigating the ICT manager's death.
"The body of the IEBC officer who was reported missing was found today (yesterday). That matter is with the detectives. It is unfair to start speculation that he had secrets," Dr Kibicho said during a joint meeting with election observers, media owners, and officials of the Editors' Guild at a Nairobi hotel.
The PS denied allegations by Opposition presidential candidate Raila Odinga that the Kenya Defence Forces was involved in the elections.
Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet said police were prepared for the elections and assured Kenyans of security during the next seven days and even after the elections.
"We started preparations for this exercise a year ago. We have drawn up a national security strategy from regions to counties to sub-county level," said Mr Boinnet.
He said police would enforce IEBC's regulations.
