Western NASA Campaigns Boss Said Raila is Not Party to Fresh ICC Bid

June 13, 2017, 9:58 am

The Opposition did not reignite the ICC debate, NASA's presidential campaign coordinator for Western has said.

Khalid Njiarini said Kenyans know Raila Odinga, who is the coalition's flag bearer, is not the one who took President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto to The Hague.

"Let Jubilee tell Kenyans the truth about the ICC issue and stop moving around blaming NASA for no reason at all," he said on Tuesday.

"NASA neither has anything to do with the International Criminal Court's issues nor are we interested. Uhuru and Ruto should stop dragging us into that."

On Sunday, National Assembly majority Leader Aden Duale hit out at ICC's senior trial lawyer Anton Steynberg over reports the court plans to revive the collapsed Kenyan cases

Njarini further asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to forget the region's vote in the August 8 poll.

He said Jubilee Party will come out of Western empty handed as they have mounted a door-to-door campaigns for Raila.

Voters in the region have resolved to solidly stand behind Raila, he added.

The ODM leader is vying against Jubilee Party's Uhuru and six other candidates cleared to seek the country's top seat.

"Their numerous visits will yield nothing. We have resolved to back Raila’s presidential bid," Njiraini said.

He told journalists in Kisumu that the huge crowds witnessed during Uhuru's trips in Western were of "hired people".

Sirisia MP John Waluke earlier said allegiance has shifted from ODM to Jubilee in NASA principal and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang'ula's home turf.

He criticised NASA for "empty bragging" and said Jubilee will upstage them, not only in the county but also across Western.

Njiraini also took issue with the compensation of Internally Displaced Persons in NASA strongholds.

"We can't compare what was given to IDPs in Western with what was given in the President's strongholds. They got houses, land and Sh400,000 each," he said.

"The Jubilee administration had said all the IDP camps were closed. Who are these IDPS being compensated at the moment?"

Njiraini added that the way the compensation has been handled in perceived NASA strongholds shows desperation to hunt for votes.

"In NASA strongholds, the IDPS were discriminated and only given Sh51,000...no land or houses. The amount given out is just peanuts."

The coordinator said the money is not enough for people to construct houses, buy land and restart their lives.

"Where were they for the last 10 years to compensate these people? This is just a strategy that we can call voter bribery," he said.
