Busia, Kenya: ODM National Elections Board has nullified Busia governor nomination results after Paul Otuoma disputed outcome over glaring irregularities. The board has said that they will conduct fresh exercise for the governor seat on April 25.

Governor Sospeter Ojaamong had emerged winner with 92,358 votes in the concluded ODM primaries in Busia,  while his challenger Funyula MP Paul Otuoma got 63,752 votes.

Earlier chaos had erupted at the tallying centre after AP officers stormed the centre after Otuoma’s supporters became rowdy over the delay in the announcing of results.

After the announcement Paul Otuoma’s supporters took to the streets of Busia protesting what they termed as a flawed nomination process.

Below is ODM’s statement

BUSIA PRIMARIES

The National Elections Board of the ODM has received results of yesterday’s nominations exercise in Busia, Bungoma and Machakos Counties from respective Returning Officers.

The Board has since receipt of the results been scrutinizing them with the aim of making the final announcement as required by the party constitution .

However, the Board has noticed major irregularities in the results for the Busia gubernatorial nomination exercise which if announced as is can cause discordance among members in the County.

In view of the above reasons, the Board has made a decision to nullify the Busia gubernatorial nomination results and ordered a repeat exercise on Tuesday 25th April 2017.

Results for the other seats remain as they were received.
