Kure's Death Is Devastating ---- Mark
Immediate past President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, on Momday, lamented over the demise of the former Governor of Niger state, Engr Abdulkadir Kure, describing him "as an accomplished public servant and quintessential politician".
Engr Kure was the civilian governor of Niger state from 1999 to 2007. He was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP).
Reacting to the demise of the former governor, Senator Mark said the death of Kure at this time was a devastating blow to the political class especially the PDP family.
Senator Mark noted that late Kure was a vibrant and dynamic governor of Niger state in his days who embarked on aggressive transformation of the state.
He recalled his acquaintance with Kure which dates back to early 1980s when he was a military governor of old Niger state, a relationship he said was consummated when they met as members and leaders of the PDP in 1998/99.
According to him, "Kure was one of the brilliant and forthright politicians I have ever met. He was soft spoken but frank and honest . He called a spade its rightful name. He was truthful and trustworthy.
" Even during serious political upheavals, he always stood firm and fearless . He left nobody in doubt about his position on critical national issues.
"We shall miss this gentleman . We shall miss this patriot . We shall miss this nationalist who craved for a nation where peace and unity reigns supreme. And where no citizen will be oppressed or shortchanged under any circumstances".
Senator Mark however took solace in the fact that Kure lived an eventful and a truly accomplished life that is worthy of emulation. He advised the bereaved family to uphold the legacy of selflessness and commitment to the ideals of nationhood for which the late Kure was known.
