December 21, 2016, 3:16 pm

Workers in Taraba state will today (Thursday) protest the instability in the payment of salaries, gratuity and pension of state and local government workers.

Besides, the Workers, under the ages of Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JPSNC) would also be protesting the non-implementation of annual increments and promotions in the state and local government workforce.

In a bulletin titled 'Notice of Protest' which was issued at the end of its meeting held on Tuesday, the Council directed workers in the state to converge at the state secretariat complex today, Thursday by 7.00 am for the protest.

The Council , according to the bulletin, which was signed by Comrades Tukur Taji, Yildet Bigwan and Alama Pius, is also demanding for the immediate removal of Starter Point Consultants as Salary Consultants to the state government based on gross incompetence in handling salary issues of the state.

The Council further noted that the immediate removal of the consultants has become imperative considering the intractable problems and sufferings it has brought upon workers in the state stressing that one year is too much for a test.

Meanwhile, Senior Special Assistant to the state governor on Media and Publicity, Sylvanus Giwa has appealed to the workers to shelve confrontation and engage the state government in dialogue to resolve the issues at stake saying the government's door is widely open at any point in time.

Giwa further stated that the problems on ground is not peculiar to Taraba state adding that the governor deserves a pat on the back for paying salaries as at when due unlike many other states in the country.

"I want to appeal to the workers to suspend the proposed protest and embrace dialogue with the government. The door of the government is wide open. Besides, the governor deserves a pat on the back for paying salaries as at when due unlike many states in the country. Confrontation will not solve any problem", he stated.
