FIRS seals oil servicing firms for tax evasion
The Federal Inland Revenue Service, Tuesday sealed the premises of two oil servicing companies for evading tax worth over N500m in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The companies, Bredero Pipelines Services at Sedco Road, Enerhen, and JAD Construction, along Enerhen Road, Uvwie, were shut by the FIRS enforcement team headed by Ruth Mandeun.
At the premises of Bredero Pipelines Services, police guards claimed that the company had stopped operations for over three years due to a court injunction, which restrained the management and workers from working at the yard due to a dispute by both parties.
The firm was said to owe the Federal Government tax arrears of N178, 638,649.90.
JAD Construction Company was sealed off for failing to remit over N400m in taxes since 2013.
The enforcement team evicted the workers before locking up the premises despite the efforts of a top management officer to present some tax clearance documents as proof of payment.
Mandeun, while speaking on the development, said, “These defaulters had the option of clearing the arrears to avoid being sealed off even at the point when we came in. Now, they still have a duty to settle the debt to get unsealed.
“If they fail to settle the arrears or attempt to operate under the FIRS lock and key, we have other measures of enforcement against them.”
